In our organization we were using some bugtracking system that is a paid service. Sometimes we do not want to put some kinds of the issues in that bugtracking system because it was also accessible to the client and the bug was so silly or small that we cannot put them online. But we also want to track those bugs so that they get fixed in some release. We also used excel files as reporting and maintaining issues found during testing. This system is very good when there is only one copy of the file and all the team members are accessing and modifying that file. But my experience is that it does not happen until you are not using a good system to maintain that file.
To avoid all these issues I started looking for a centrally placed system which is accessible to all team members, that also take cares of modifications done by all members accessing it and should be freely available. MantisBT is a free popular web-based bugtracking system. But I found installing and configuring the mantis is very complex from the tutorial given in documentation of mantis website. I was also not able to find very good tutorial on the web. To install and configure mantis you need following softwares installed and configured properly on your system: Software (for MantisBT 1.1. Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy Pdf Maker on this page. x) • 4.3.0 and higher • 4.1.1 and higher (MS SQL and DB2 are also supported).
• Web server (, IIS, etc.) Software (for MantisBT 1.2.x) • 5.2.0 and higher • 4.1.1 and higher (MS SQL, DB2, and PostgreSQL are also supported). • Web server (, IIS, etc.) One way is to go to these websites and download these softwares. After installing these you have to just download the mantis proper version and install.
Now you will say so what is so difficult in this. The real difficulty I faced as a non programmer and especially from a.Net domain (not php domain) that configuration part is not easy. You have to open the configuration files in some text editor and look for proper settings to set. I tried to do this but when PHP works Apache stops working and when Apache works PHP stops working. Now to make long story short honestly even after trying for some hours I was not able to configure and run them simultaneously.
Here are my steps to Install and configure the mantis in just 10 minutes: Step 1: Go to Step 2: Download the WampServer software Step 3: Uninstall the IIS if installed on your system and restart. If you are using IIS for some purpose then you have to configure the apache to run on some other port as default port 80 is used by IIS for http. My recommendation is to uninstall the IIS if you are not using it for any purpose.
Otherwise you can search for the tutorial on google for configuring the Apache or IIS on some other port. Step 4: Install the WampServer software These settings are used to set the default Email address that will receive the emails if any changes are made in mantis. For example when a new issue is reported or changed etc.
