I've followed the directions in the M5 Manual and also the downloaded versions from HomeLink but cannot get the dang thing to work. I had no problems with the single code openers at my old home, so I don't think it is a faulty HomeLink system. Download The Lungi Dance Video. Therefore, I'm turning to best source of knowledge available on the M5 for help, the Members of this forum! I'm sure I am just missing some small step in the process. Saw your problems on the board.
I'm a real estate agent and so I deal with garage door openers a little more than the average person (other than just pushing the little button) and had just a little difficulty figuring it out when I programmed mine. I probably have the same openers as you since I just bought a new house as well and it has Liftmaster openers with rolling codes too.
I think these directions describe all of the steps I used, but I'm not 100% sure without going out and repeating everything over again. Step 1: Clear your Homelink (don't skip this step) as noted in the manual. Step 2: Hold the button #1 on your Homelink in, and hold the opener button on at the same time.
Hold these until the Homelink LED starts blinking quickly (took about 20 seconds for me, not the manual's stated 15 seconds). Step 3: Look at the back or side of the garage door opener itself and you will find a programming button. It's probably a red or purple square button. Press this in for about one to two seconds. Step 4: Immediately (as fast as possible), go into the car and press and hold Homelink button #1 for about a second, then press it in again for a second, then press again a third time. Step 5: Upon the third (maybe fourth) press, the garage door opener should have flashed it's light bulb off and on again (or on and off).
If you press the Homelink button again, it should operage the door. Make sure your car isn't parked under the closing door! I find that with them programmed, you still have to press the Homelink button for about one second for it to transmit the opener signal. These directions are only a slight variation of what is straight out of the manual. I programmed two doors with this, and was even able to make button #3 operate the fixed-code gates to my gated neighborhood. Hi, Did you get it to work?
I have the same garage opener you have and cannot get it to work either. I got the programming to work this evening. Here is the directions I got from HomeLink earlier this afternoon. Rolling Code Programming: 1. Press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons until the indicator light begins to flash (after 20 seconds)or the display reads 'Channels Cleared'. Do not hold for longer than 30 seconds.
Do not repeat this step to program additional HomeLink buttons. Place the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches from the HomeLink button you want to program. Simultaneously, press and hold both your HomeLink button and your hand-held transmitter. Do not release either button until step 4 has been completed. (If you reside in Canada, refer to the 'NOTE' below.) 4.
When the indicator light changes from a slow blink to a rapid flash or the display reads'Channel Trained', release both HomeLink & hand held transmitter buttons. Then go to your garage door opener motor head unit in the garage. Locate the 'Program' or 'Learn' button.
Usually near the hanging antenna wire on your garage door opener motor head unit. (The name of these buttons vary by manufacturer, please see your garage door openers owners manual for the location of this programming button). Press and release the 'Program' or 'Learn' button once, like a door bell (1 second)(Do not hold this button down. Holding this button down for too long will erase all Remotes, Keypad and other HomeLink equipped vehicles). There is 30 seconds in which to initiate step 7.
Then go to your vehicle and firmly press and hold your already programmed HomeLink button for three seconds and release. Do this procedure a second time and depending on the Brand of your garage door opener you may need to do this step a third time to complete the process.
The garage should now activate when the programmed HomeLink button is firmly pressed and released. If not, give us a call or refer to the 'Troubleshooting Tips' noted below.
